Description
In this volume Dr Crenshaw increasingly regarded as a leading expert on the wisdom literature attempts to clarify the character of wisdom and establish its place within Israelite society. The heart of the book consists of an analysis of the main books in the wisdom tradition this is followed by a chapter which isolates certain abiding contributions of biblical wisdom specifically its insistence on a fundamental realism and the radical scepticism which kept the sages honest. The final chapter puts Israelite wisdom within its ancient Near Eastern setting.
